After the colonization process of the ancient Greeks-and a shooting stage etrusca- occupation was occupied by the Roman Empire at the time of the Republic, becoming along with Sardinia a province of the empire.
In medieval times the island was part of the dispute between Pisa and Genoa, was independent between 1755 and 1769, finally being purchased from the Republic of Genoa by France, the country that currently the island is a part.
However, there is a nationalist current demands of the island's identity and greater autonomy. Also there since 1976 the National Liberation Front of Corsica congregation has made several terrorist actions asserting the independence of the island.
TOURISM
The real tourist wealth of Corsica, is in its natural heritage. With its nature reserves, some of which, declared World Heritage by UNESCO: International marine park and the regional natural park, between Calvi and Porto-Vecchio.
Unlike other Mediterranean islands, Corsica remains almost intact its beautiful coastline and an interior marked by mountain ranges.
The bottom line remains the preservation of the environment, and, in fact, the island has a few small hotels and nightlife capacity is short and limited. The Corsicans prefer it that way, and the island is a great place to rest and relax.
