HISTORY :
Solola department was erected by decree of the Constituent Assembly from November 4, 1825 . Was part of the High State in 1838 , 1840 , 1848 and 1849 when he returned to join the Republic.
As in the present territory of the department of Solola was occupied by three people, the K'iche ' and Kaqchikel tz'utujil . Until the mid- fifteenth century ( between 1425 and 1475 ) , the Quiche and Cakchiquel formed a single political and social organization. During the reign of the Great Quikab , the Cakchiquel were forced to evacuate its capital Chiavar (Today Santo Tomas Chichicastenango ) and moved to Iximché after the which fought bloody wars with the Quiche .

CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS :
The owner fair is held at the head of Solola on August 15 , and the party called Nim Akij Solola , meaning Solola Big Day is celebrated.
In this department there is a deeply rooted religious syncretism , as revere both Jesus Christ and all the saints of the Catholic church as the God World, to the Lord of the Hill, the spirits of ancestors, etc.
